Great Lake Expedition

Great Lake Expedition was exceptionally professional and customer focused from start to finish. Our guide and driver Frank was taking very good care of us, showing us the best spots, communicating with rangers and other guides to make every safari successful. We had a lot to see and do in our 6 days tour and now in retrospect we are glad for every minute. I can certainly recommend Great Lake Expedition as safari tour operator. I would definitely book with them again if I get the opportunity to go back to Tanzania. Thank you so much, Great Lake Expedition.

I went with Great Lake Expedition to climb the Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe route. For me this was one of the best experience while I was in Tanzania and recommend everyone who is into hiking to give it a try. To start off I have to give a shout out to the Great Lake Expedition crew. They helped me a lot during the reservation and preparation process. All my question were answered quickly and special requests for pick- up and drop-off were arranged without any problems. First day and night will be in a good hotel (note that lunch and dinner is not included here). Here your gear is checked by the crew. There are rental options if you need some extra gear. The advice they gave me was really helpful. The guides were great and knew their stuff. You could go to them with any question, request or complaint. They also payed attention to the well-being of every hiker. On top of that they carried out a medical check twice a day. The porters were really nice, and did our heavy loading. Without them the trekking would much more difficult. The food was great and there was plenty of it. But be prepared for a lot of carbs. Because of the professional organization everyone in our group made it to the top (despite the difficult hike to the summit). My experience with Great Lake Expedition was excellent

We would have no hesitation in recommending Great Lake Expedition. Our guide and driver Philbert, was outstanding. He was professional in his friendliness, driving, knowledge and was a pleasure to spend our time in Tanzania with. We were with him for the duration of our 6-day safari, (including our Tanzanite Wedding Anniversary), and he gave us a safari to remember! We asked lots of questions regarding the animals, birds and plants and he answered them with both knowledge and enthusiasm. He versed us on the history of the area and many other interesting facts. We traveled many miles and felt safe and secure at all times. He made our holiday perfect. These memories will stay with us forever!

My trip with Great Lake Expedition was beyond awesome! Honestly I was a bit nervous on who I was going to end up paired with on my trip. I couldn't have had a better team and we all had a blast and half. After days of tough slogging our nights were full of laughs and fun, I took the Machame route because of the high summit success rate and because of how beautiful the route is supposed to be and it didn't disappoint. It was gorgeous and I got some awesome pictures. Although I will say that just because of the high summit success rate doesn't mean it's the easiest route, from the very beginning we all knew that it was going to be an eight days to be reckoned with. Eight out of eight of us made it to the top (including myself) and it was a fine end to a tough but very rewarding experience. Our main guide Max was fantastic, very caring and well mannered he took care of us all very well. For instance on the way back down from the summit I blew out my back, Max and our assistant guide Abely walked the slow and steep downhill path with me, never begrudgingly but with a smile and good encouragement whenever I thought my back had finally had it. So amazing was everyone on my team it was like a match made in heaven. I absolutely recommend Great Lake Expedition to anyone considering taking on this great challenge, if I were to ever go back and climb her again, Great Lake Expedition would be my FIRST choice! We had an excellent 5 day safari with Great Lake Expedition in Tanzania. I have been dreaming of going on a safari for years and it exceeded all of my expectations. Saidy was really responsive and helpful on email to get the trip booked and answer all of our questions before the trip. Our guide Flavian had so much knowledge about the animals, nature, culture and history, and he was in good spirits even on the rainy afternoons that made driving difficult. I never dreamed we’d see all the animals that we did, and never got tired of seeing giraffes poke their heads out from the trees, prides of lions in the trees or long grass, elephants that made us feel so small and the migration. Our accommodation was really nice & comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff were so friendly and helpful everywhere we stayed. The relaxing stay on the beautiful island of Zanzibar at the end of the trip is ideal. I highly recommend going on safari with Great Lake Expedition! It really was a trip of a lifetime! We had a 6 day migration safari trip with Johnson our driver and guide. The whole adventure was amazing! We saw all big five , the beautiful "sea" of African savanna. It was very well organized in every little detail and Johnson was the best! Thank you
