Our staff meets you at the international terminal of Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa. Depending on your arrival time we will have activities planned. Most guests arrive in the evening though, in time for hotel check-in and dinner at a cultural restaurant.

After breakfast we begin our guided tour of Addis Ababa. Here we visit the two most important museums in Ethiopia. Firstly the National Museum of Ethiopia, where Lucy the 3.2 million year old skeleton of our oldest human ancester is kept. We also head to the Ethnological museum where you have a chance to discover Ethiopia’s cultural diversity and history. Midday we enjoy a fresh vegan lunch buffet at the first hotel in Ethiopia. We also visit the second most important Orthodox church in Ethiopia next to Axum Zion, Holy Trinity Cathedral, as it is a must-to-see in Addis Ababa. The cathedral's compound holds the remains of many iconic Ethiopians and their family including Emperor Haile Selassie and many imperial family members. No tour of Addis is complete without exploring Mercato, the largest open air market in Africa. Most every product sold in country can be purchased at this fantastic market. We end the day at a popular viewpoint from which you can see the entire city of Addis Ababa.

After breakfast we drive to Wonchi Crater Lake, one of the most stunning sites near Addis Ababa. Wonchi is known for its extinct volcano, hot springs, hiking, waterfalls, island monastery, beautiful valleys and being over 3000 meters above sea level. Guests will enjoy a boat trip as well as mule riding. After a full day at Wonchi, we drive to Weliso to stay overnight.

After your buffet breakfast we enjoy some nature walks around the lodge grounds. Here we may encounter birds, monkeys, dik dik and other small animals. Depart to Addis Ababa after a relaxed lunch.

Just after your breakfast we catch the first available flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, you check in your hotel. We immediately head out to start our visit of the world famous churches. The churches are carved from the solid rock mountainside or of monolithic blocks. Depending on your interest, you will also have the chance to experience traditional houses where you will enjoy traditional music, food and drink. The most popular of all the churches,Bete Giyorgis is isolated and will be visited on this day.

Just after breakfast we start the day with a drive to Yemrehana Kristos Church. This church was built in the 11th and 12th century from stone and wood. The architectural tradition of the ancient Kingdom of Axum was applied to build the church. The roundtrip drive is 84 km. Our afternoon is spent visiting the 2nd group of rock-hewn churches. We end the day with an amazing sunset view and dinner.

Activities Included

We wake early to catch the flight back to Addis Ababa. On the way to Lalibela Airport, you will have a quick tour of the Nakuto La'ab monastery. This cave monastery has some of the most interesting crosses, manuscripts, and other relics of its founder, King Nakuto La’ab. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you have time for some last minute sightseeing, and souvenir shopping before your flight home. You also have day use of your hotel depending on your outbound flight.
