Day 1Sani pass & Lesotho

Landscape photography Scenic Drive CultureDepart from Underberg at 8am and tackle the 4x4 drive up the legendary Sani Pass. We take a break at the “Highest Pub in Africa” then we make our way up Black Mountain Pass and down the beautiful Sehonghong river valley and on to the remote village of Makhupung. Here we visit the resident traditional healer, observe a unique song & dance routine and a secret ceremonial dance. Interact and picnic lunch with the villagers. A true, once in a lifetime, cultural experience. We then climb to the “Roof of Africa” past the Letsing Diamond Mine (world’s highest diamond mine), over the highest pass in Lesotho (Tlaeeng Pass, 3279m)(Africa’s highest motorable pass) and on to Oxbow Lodge. This is our accommodation for the night.
Day 2Oxbow - Clarens

Hiking Landscape photography Scenic Drive CultureThis morning we leave the Maluti Mountains as we drive down the scenic Moteng Pass and into the Lesotho lowlands. We visit the Liphofung Cave which has been used by people since prehistoric times and includes San rock art on the walls. We take a scenic drive past numerous Basotho villages, then visit a site that contains 3 species of dinosaur’s footprints, Massospondylus, Heterodontosaurus and Lesothosaurus ("lizard from Lesotho"). We leave Lesotho and arrive in Clarens(SA) in time for lunch. (own cost) You spend the rest of the day exploring the enchanting village. Overnight in Clarens.
Day 3Clarens - Durban

Landscape photographyFrom Clarens we will take a leisurely drive through the Golden Gate National Park, stopping for a short walk to the base of an enormous sandstone overhang. We will then travel past the Sterkfontein dam, down the Oliviershoek Pass for an early lunch at Bingelela (own cost). Our last experience will be at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, where Mandela was captured leading to his arrest. We finish your tour in either Pietermaritzburg, Durban or Underberg.
