Day 1World Heritage Site of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park
Activities Included
General Photography Landscape photography Scenic Drive CultureDeparture for the World Heritage Site of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park following the Mkomazi River up the Sani Valley to the South African Border Post. We continue to climb to an altitude of 2.874 m zigzagging upwards until we reach the Lesotho Border Post. Once formalities have been completed refreshment stop at the “Highest Pub in Africa”. Superb view into the Sani Valley. Visit of a Basotho mountain village where you will be told about the Basotho culture and tradition. Ascending the Black Mountain Pass up to 3.280m, following the Senqu River. Picnic lunch on route. We will continue past St. James Mission to the great Katse Dam, one the largest dams in the world. Arrival at the lodge about 17:00. Spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure and have dinner at the restaurant. Overnight: Guest Lodge, Lesotho

We travel on the Nelson Mandela Road (tar) and have lunch at the Bokong Nature Reserve. The main road passes the Leribe Farmers Training Centre to the town of Hlotse. Strange, richly coloured rock shapes, creating the effect of a vast assembly of weird, petrified figures. Visit of a local craft market near Butha-Buthe. Ascending the twisting tar road to the summit of the Moteng Pass (2.840m), one of the highest roads attained by normal two-wheel-drive vehicles in Southern Africa. Dinner at the lodge.
