Almighty Kilimanjaro

I had just come home from climbing Kilimanjaro in October, and couldn't wait to parlay that success into another summit, this time of Mt. Meru. That was before I got to see the beauty that is Arusha National Park. I chose Almighty Kilimanjaro because the company and staff always work so hard to make clients happy and give you the adventure you're looking for. A late start at the park, and a shortage of armed rangers, meant that I as a solo traveler with my own guide had to go with another very large group which wasn't appealing to me. Lucky me, my amazing guide Saidy had a suggestion: we could stay at the Momella gate, and then start up the next day with our own ranger. Sounded great to me, and wow was it. We ended up staying at a secluded "rest house" with bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen, armed ranger, hot showers, and the most gorgeous views ever. Kilimanjaro out my front door; Meru out the back...dik diks running across the lawn, birds everywhere. The next day, we started up to Mariacamba camp, and I just couldn't stop thinking about that oasis we had just left, so Saidy, ever the innovator and problem-solver, said it would be very possible to loop back down the longer trail, see all kinds of animals, and stay our last night in the same house. So what started out as a summit climb of Meru, turned into the best cultural exchange trip of my life with my team and I celebrating my birthday dinner all together at the Rest House. The take-away from this whole trip for anyone reading this review is this: Don't be taken in by advertising that suggests you have to pay exorbitant rates for great adventures. Almighty Kilimanjaro can make it happen for you. Whatever your desire, and sometimes even adventures you didn't know were possible, are all within reach at a reasonable cost. All you have to do is ask.
