Summary
This action-packed 5 day journey will take you deep into the heart of Samburu, along with the exciting National Parks of Lake Navaisha and Lake Nakuru. You will start your journey with a boat ride on Lake Navaisha, followed by a visit to the endangered Rothschild Giraffes. Next, check in to your resort on the banks of Lake Nakuru. On the next day, head to the semi-arid dry lands of the Samburu Reserve. The next three days we will be staying at Sabache Camp and we will be exploring the park from here. Samburu is captivating from a conservation perspective, important pioneering work is done here to rehabilitate land affected by man-made drought and poaching. You also have opportunities to meet the Samburu People. The Samburu are a Maasai clan with a distinctive culture and tongue. John will walk you through all the commonalities and differences between the Maasai and the Samburu. We suggest combining this tour with our 4 day Maasai Mara Culture and Wildlife Experience.

Day-by-day Description
Day 1Navaisha and Nakuru
Activities Included
Boat Cruise CultureWe pick you up in the morning at your hotel or the airport in Nairobi. Alternatively, we take you from Maasai Mara - we encourage combining this safari with our Maasai Mara Culture and Wildlife Safari. We slowly start making our way to Nakuru. It's a bit of a ride, but we will have a lunch break on the way and - if you like - we will then enjoy a boat ride on Lake Naivasha. This fresh water lake is home to several birds and many hippos and a boat ride here adds a different type of safari to your adventures. After an hour drive we will arrive to Nakuru National Park where we go for your first game drive. The rare rhinos, Rothschild Giraffes and also flamingos are living near this salt water lake. In the evening we arrive to our hotel Lanet Matfam Resort where we have dinner and sleep.
Day 2Off to Samburu

Camping Game Walk CultureAfter breakfast, we make our way to Samburu and our camp for the next nights - Sabache Camp. The rustic yet comfortable camp is the ideal location from which to explore the Samburu. We enjoy an evening game drive into the Samburu reserve.
Day 3Samburu Reserve

Hiking CultureToday we experience a full-day in the Samburu reserve. The landscape here is totally different from our previous safari parks. It's very dry and animals here are perfectly adapted to this hard conditions. We find grevy Zebras, reticulated giraffes, oryx and many other antelopes and gazelles. We are also hoping to see the very rare wild dogs and get a good glimpse of leopards. Later we return back to our camp and go on a hike with a local Samburu warrior. Discuss Samburu and Maasai culture together with John and the local warrior. Afterwards we enjoy a nice dinner.

Day 4Reteti Elephant Conservation Project
Activities Included
CultureToday we will visit the Reteti Elephant Conservation Project. This is a community-owned enterprise which rehabilitates and releases elephants into the wild. It is one of a kind in Africa - as it is owned and managed by local Samburu people. Discover how community-led conservation is working to restore a region marred by poaching and deforestation. Reteti employs 43 local people, experts in anti-poaching and in animal rehabilitation. Join the team in their day-to-day activities.
