Arrival in Uganda On arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda and after finalizing the formalities, you shall be welcomed by your guide, who will then drive you to your accommodation. Depending on your time of arrival, you may have an optional city tour of Entebbe or visit Entebbe Botanical gardens. It is a large tract of marshlands with various channels through it which provides the perfect habitat for countless water birds. Keep your eyes open for the Shoebill Stork and web toed Sitatunga Antelopes. You will proceed to Kampala for a brief city Tour and lunch. Later you will drive to Jinja and camp overnight at The Haven lodge overlooking the rapids on River Nile. There after you will have a city tour of Jinja town. Jinja is the second largest and industrial capital of Uganda. You may visit local markets or some industries. In the afternoon you start your journey to Kapchorwa home to the magnificent Sipi falls. You will camp overnight at Sipi falls resort. Main Destination: Nile River Accommodation: Budget camping • In or near Nile River Meals & Drinks: • All meals included • Drinks not included Sipi Falls hike and coffee community walk You shall have a nature walk to the Sipi falls. These are a series of 3 waterfalls. You shall walk to the base of the falls and relax while taking a dip in the cool water of the falls, located at the base of Mt Elgon. In the afternoon you will go for a coffee community walk. The Sipi Falls area, found at the base of Mount Elgon is particularly famous for Bugisu Arabica Coffee produced and grown by the Local farmers. Bugisu Arabica only grows at an altitude of between 1,600 and 1,900 metres; it is the main cash crop in the area and genuinely one of the finest coffee's in the world. You will again Camp overnight at Sipi falls resort. Along the way you will visit the Nyero rock paintings. They comprise of a three-tiered rock shelter with primitive paintings on the inner surface that dates back to the Iron Age. In Kitgum, you will pitch camp relax and enjoy the beautiful and quiet ambiance at Moroto Hotel. Upon arrival you will set up camp inside the park and thereafter embark on an evening Game drive. The Park lies in the rugged, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, some 700km from Kampala. It has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as around 475 bird species. Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few who make the long journey north agree that it is also the most magnificent, and ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. In the afternoon, you will enjoy another game drive Kidepo National Park is a savannah landscape that extends in all directions. It is home to elephant, zebra, giraffe, huge herds of buffalo, warthog, duiker, Jackson’s Hartebeest, lion, leopard, cheetah and hundreds of bird species. Afterwards you will retire to your campsite. This will also enable you to be in full sight of varieties of birds as well. You will rest until evening where you will go for a cultural tour in the Karimojong community. Here you will spend a wonderful evening with Karamajong people and have an insight of their way of life and beliefs. At the end of the tour you will be able to understand why their pride makes them slow to adapt to globalization. You shall have a stop in Gulu town to purchase some items then proceed to the national Park. The Nile Delta has the biggest concentration of wildlife in the park. After identifying your camping ground and setting up camp you will go for an evening Game drive in the park. Oribi, Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, and enjoy spotting various Bird species such as the Secretary Bird, Black Chested Snake Eagle, Tawny and Marshal Eagles Carmine and Swallow Tailed Bee-Eaters and many more. In the evening, you will have another game drive to catch another glimpse of the animals. You will set camp at the Top of the Falls’ Campsite. With over 1,450 individuals protected within the park, Kibale forest is home to the largest number of the endangered chimpanzees in Uganda, as well as the threatened red colobus monkey and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey. The forest has one of the highest diversity and density of primates in Africa totaling 13 species. In the afternoon after tracking, you have the opportunity for a guided walk through the swamps of Bigodi swamps. Trekking the Mountain Gorilla is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The trek will take between 2 and 6 hours, but is well worth the effort. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will tell you interesting facts about flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. After trekking you will drive to Lkae Bunyonyi where you will camp overnight at Akaawe campsite. The Lake Mburo National Park forms a mosaic-like habitat with rocks, dry slopes, open and wooded savannas, forests, and swamps increases. This diversity of habitats has the diversity of bird life with 313 bird species recorded in the park, including flame head Barbet, Long-tailed Zitting Cisticola (Tabora), African Bins Rail, Collared Barbet, binding Bush singer among others. You will also camp inside the park. Depending on your arrival time you can visit some of Kigali’s craft markets, to browse amongst the pottery, carvings, batik, weaving, sculpture, musical instruments, leather and fabrics on offer. Prepare to haggle! All activities today are at your own cost. You will spend the night at a lovely accommodation. Flame tree village is ideally located on the outskirts of Kigali. Day 3Gorilla tracking in Rwanda

Gorilla tracking in Rwanda Today you will go for your first Gorilla tracking of this tour. From the briefing point your driver/guide will take you as close as possible to the starting-point of your tracking. Your track will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the Gorillas’ habitat. En-route, your guide will point out signs of previous Gorilla activity, including dung, nests and chewed bamboo shoots. The time taken to track the Gorillas can take as little as half an hour to as much as 8 hours! Once the Gorillas have been located, you will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a Mountain Gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Rwanda’s own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’. Day 4Lake Mutanda in Uganda

From volcanoes national park you will be transferred in about 3 hours to Mutanda Lake Resort in Uganda. Mutanda Lake Resort is spectacularly located on a private peninsula stretching into Lake Mutanda. With small islands dotting the surrounding lake and a backdrop of misty volcanoes in nearby Rwanda and Dr Congo this setting never fails to impress visitors. The main building where the restaurant is located resembles a Swiss chalet with an African touch, the perfect place to enjoy a sun downer watching otters visiting the shore, or to cuddle up next to the fire place. Day 5Gorilla tracking in Uganda

Gorilla tracking in Uganda Your driver will pick you up early morning from the lodge. He will transfer you to the starting point of the gorilla tracking. He will wait for you and bring you back to the lodge when finished. The Gorillas you will track belong to one of nine habituated family groups who can tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period every day. Your trek will be an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the Gorillas’ habitat. Day 6Democratic Republic of Congo

Democratic Republic of Congo The driver/guide of Mutanda Lake resort will take you to Bunagana border. If you used our Visa services you Visa approval will be ready at the border and you will receive your Congolese Visa in your passport. On the other side your Congolese drive/guide will be waiting to take you to Virunga National park. The Virunga N.P. is the oldest national park in Africa and it is the most varied region on the entire continent and home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzee. It boasts the only glacier in Africa with its Rwenzori Mountains and has typical savanna grass land near Lake Edward and the Rwindi plains. Just outside the Virunga National Park boundary lays the Bukima tented camp, which is one of the main starting points Virunga mountain gorilla treks. Day 7Gorilla tracking in DR Congo

Gorilla tracking in DR Congo Today is an exciting day and the second tracking of this tour. Today you will stand eye-to-eye with the Mountain Gorilla. Virunga National park is an UNESCO world heritage site and the oldest national park on the continent! This national park has been hidden from the public for a long time due to civil war and unrest in Eastern Congo. At this moment it is fully operational and the perfect place to track the mountain gorillas in the wild. Starting at the headquarters in Rumangabo you will go for a challenging hike in search of these gentle giants. Once you see the mountain gorillas you have one hour to photograph and admire them before you turn back to the headquarters. In the afternoon you have time to visit the Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage famous from the Netflix documentary Virunga. four mountain gorilla's are nurtured in this orphanage. Tonight you will sleep in one of the most luxury lodges in DR Congo, Mikeno lodge. Day 8Kigali

Kigali Today is unfortunately your last day with Matoke tours. Depending on your international departure at Kigali airport you can still have time to enjoy the Virunga national park and surrounding. Please note that the check-out time at Mikeno lodge is 10 AM. The driver of Virunga National park will take you to Goma border. On the other side you will meet with your driver/guide who will make sure you are at the airport in time to catch your flight home. Sadly this is where you say goodbye to Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo. It is possible to arrange a day room on one of the hotels in Kigali to refresh yourself before your flight. This is the end of hopefully a wonderful Gorilla tracking tour in Uganda, Rwanda & DR Congo.
