This safari experience entails an extensive tour of all of Uganda's main conservation areas, and all the variety they have to offer. As the name suggests, this tour is designed for clients to seek out leopard and lion in the marshes, rocks, plains, and trees of Uganda. You will also seek the elusive cheetahs of Kidepo and Pian Upe. This safari is available at a budget to suit you, and will include catered luxury camping in some locations - we work tirelessly to ensure that our guests experience the very best that our country has to offer on their search for these magnificent beasts.

Day 1Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park

Before our safari adventure officially begins, we'll make a stop at the equator for a coffee and a photo opportunity. Then we'll head off for Lake Mburo National Park, just in time for lunch. Lake Mburo is a delightfully intimate park featuring a healthy population of leopard and the occasional lion or hyena. Take in the view from your accommodations at Rwakobo Rock, perched high above the park, or stretch your legs with a walk in the lodge grounds. As the sun sets over Africa, you'll head into the park for an evening drive - hopefully, you'll encounter a leopard emerging for its night patrol! The drive will conclude in time for dinner back at the lodge.

Dusk and dawn are the best times of day to see African wildlife in action, so keep your eyes peeled! Our party will then head west through scenic farmland and tea plantations to the volcanic highlands of the south-west, stopping for lunch en route. You will arrive at Enjojo Lodge in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the late afternoon, just in time for an evening game drive in the Inshasha Sector. Keep a lookout for the area's famous tree-climbing lions. We'll spend the remainder of the evening in the tranquil surrounds of the delightful Enjojo Lodge.
Day 3Ishasha and the Kazinga Channel

You will then take the route through the conservation area to the main sector of Queen Elizabeth NP where you will have your packed lunch. After lunch you will cruise the Kazinga channel enjoying the wildlife such as buffalo and elephants on it’s banks and the hippos and crocodiles within the water. In the evening you will be taken to your lodge in time for dinner. The entire expedition normally takes between two and three hours. During the trek, you will help record environmental and weather data. This information is used to learn more about and consequently protect the ecology of the lions' habitat. It's a brilliant opportunity to encounter these big cats in a totally different way, while directly contributing to their conservation. After the morning's adventure, you'll return to Marafiki Lodge for lunch and a few hours of relaxation - take a moment to enjoy the stunning views from your room! When the evening rolls around, you'll head into the Kasenyi plains for a game drive, following the famous "leopard drive" in search of more big cats.

Day 5Queen Elizabeth NP to Murchison Falls NP, Budongo Forest
The day begins with an early start and a leisurely drive through some lovely scenery, starting with the picturesque Rwenzori mountains in the distance. We'll stop in Fort Portal for a coffee, then carry on through farmland, cane fields, tea estates, and the lush forests of western Uganda. Finally, we'll arrive in Murchison Falls National Park. We'll wind through Budongo Forest, the oldest surviving forest in East Africa, to arrive at Budongo Eco-Lodge, nestled in the heart of the trees. If we make good time, you might have time to amble through the forest, which shelters a huge variety of birds, small antelope, reptiles, and primates (including chimps). Enjoy dinner at the lodge before being lulled to sleep by a chirruping choir of forest creatures.
Day 6Game drives, Nile River Cruise, and Luxury Camping at the Top of Murchison Falls

Alternatively, you can opt for a walk in the forest or a chimpanzee trek. After lunch, you'll be launched to the foot of the falls - a journey of about an hour and a half. En route to the falls, cast an eye to the riverbanks to take in the scenery and spot wildlife. Hippos and crocodiles abound, and various waterbirds and large mammals flock to the banks to drink and feed. Once at the foot of the falls, we'll disembark and begin the steep hike to the top, where your guide will have already set up camp and a chef will be preparing your dinner. Take a moment to appreciate the raw, natural power of the river below. This is prime leopard territory, so we'll have a quick scout around for them in the evening.

Around lunchtime, you'll cross the Nile at Paraa before driving into the delta area. The huge variety of landscapes within Murchison Falls National Park gives rise to a corresponding variety of animals, both predator and prey. In the late afternoon, you'll go on a game drive in search of some of these before returning to camp, where once again your chef will be preparing dinner. Our camps are unique in Uganda, featuring spacious bell tents furnished with raised mattresses and solar lighting. We maintain our own bush facilities, and all your meals will be catered for by a private chef.
Day 8Murchison Falls NP to Kidepo Valley NP

Breakfast will be served before we leave Murchison and head into northern Uganda. As you head north through Acholiland, you will notice that the terrain and the people change. We'll make a stop in the bustling market town of Gulu before moving on to Kitgum, passing through a pensive landscape of rocky outcrops and villages recovering with dignity from the ravages of the past. We'll stop for lunch at the dusty outpost of Kitgun before turning east towards Kidepo. Gradually, the flat plains evolve into a stunning mountain pass, which reveals the secret beauty of Kidepo Valley National Park. Once inside the park, we'll drop our things at the campsite and then it's a short scramble up the Amapuis Rock viewpoint for sundowners.

We'll begin out day with a visit to the Narus Valley in search of wildlife. Then, we'll return to camp for a more substantial breakfast before heading out once more towards the seasonal Kidepo River in search of ostrich and cheetah. We'll enjoy a packed lunch among the Barassas palms at the riverside before returning to camp in the mid afternoon. You can find a nice, shady spot to read your book in, enjoy a relaxing walk in nature, or visit the nearby community for the remainder of the day. Dinner will be a traditional potjie stew, served beside the camp fire.

Day 10Kidepo Valley to Pian Upe Reserve and stunning Karamoja

It is a long, but beautiful drive through and over the rocky ridges and outcrops of Karamoja, and through endless acacia woodlands inhabited only by cattle herders and their charges. You'll arrive at Pian Upe in the evening, in time to enjoy a cold drink as you watch the sun go down over this scarcely-visited reserve, with the view of Mount Elgon in the distance.

Day 11Pian Upe Reserve to Jinja

Pian Upe is home to cheetah and hyena as well as ostrich, eland, and various other antelope. The accessible area is quite small. so we'll return to camp mid-morning and then head south towards Mount Elgon and Mbale for lunch. After lunch, we'll continue to The Haven in Jinja, a lodge nestled on the banks of the River Nile. After long journeys and many nights under the stars, you'll spend your final night on safari in a bit of well-deserved luxury.

Day 12Jinja to Entebbe
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to enjoy one of the adventure activities Jinja is famous for (not included in the price of the package) such as horseback safari, quad biking, kayaking, or white water rafting. You may prefer to spend the morning lying in before your flight. Whatever your choice, we'll be sure to personally arrange your safe transfer to the airport.
