Day-by-day Description
Day 1Nairobi to Maasai Mara
Activities Included
General Photography CultureAfter we've picked you up from either the airport or your hotel in Nairobi, we'll make our way into the Maasai Mara. We'll make a stop first at the Rift Valley View Point to take in the spectacular sight of the Kenyan plains, and then again for lunch en route. We'll arrive in Oloolaimutia in the afternoon, at which point you will be introduced to your host family. You may choose between sleeping in the family home, or in a communal house built by the village specifically for visitors. Whatever you decide, you will be most warmly welcomed into the community - especially by the kids! The rest of the day is yours to get to know the area, learn something about our traditions, and help with milking the cows before dinner. Nighttime is something of an adventure - you are likely to hear a number of wild animals while you sleep. Hyena, lion, and elephant pass close by, but don't worry - our dogs will keep you safe, and nothing unwelcome will enter our cosy homestead!

Day 2Experience Maasai Culture
Activities Included
Bird Photography Hiking Landscape photography Party Bird Watching CultureAs Maasai, we are usually awake with the rising sun to milk the cows and goats. Tuesday is a busy market day for Oloolaimutia; if your stay coincides with it, you can accompany us and experience the vibrant colours and rowdy bargaining of the marketplace. If you are into hiking, we can start your day with an invigorating walk. A nearby mountain provides awesome views, and lucky trekkers might even spot some small, local antelope. We'll enjoy lunch at a typical East African restaurant, and then the day is up to you. Maybe you want to learn how to throw a spear or use a bow and arrow like our warriors - the Ol Moran - once did. Perhaps you'd like to visit the kids in school and teach them something of your home country. You may also choose to sit down with the women of our community and craft yourself some traditional jewellery. In the evening, we'll stoke up a great barbecue for you. Learn how to make fire without matches or lighters, and enjoy some yummy "Nyama Choma" like a Maasai! If you still can't get enough, we can head into town for some beers and dancing at a local club.
