Day 1ARRIVE SOWETO

Check into your room and relax for the afternoon, afterwards enjoys a dinner at the Outdoor Restaurant situated in the community park. Enjoy a traditional dinner and a local beer and the community buzz around you. Included Activities • Airport arrival transfer Meals Included TRADITIONAL DINNER Useful Information Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers is situated in Orlando West, Soweto. A vibrant community, rich in history and culture, giving you the opportunity to experience Soweto, its people, the different neighbourhoods and its history up close and personal. The community is safe to explore on your own and is in walking distance from many of Soweto’s famous sites such as the Hector Pieterson memorial and Vilakazi Street with Nelson Mandela’s former home. Please note that your accommodation for the next two nights is in shared dormitory rooms, which enhances the experience. Upgrades to private rooms may be booked by prior arrangement, subject to availability.

The tour is fun, interactive and informative and by cycling you can easily move through the various neighbourhoods and interact with the community. Visit all the historical sites along the way, like the Hector Pieterson Museum and the Nelson Mandela’s former home in Vilakazi Street. Enjoy a lunch stop before continuing on the tour in the afternoon. The tour requires a bit of physical fitness and cycling skill but frequent stops are made along the way, giving you time to catch your breath. After travelling through the Highveld farmlands we descend the Drakensberg Escarpment and into the Lowveld, home to some of the most pristine Private Game Reserves in South Africa and the world renowned Kruger National Park. We arrive at Thornhill Safari Lodge in time for a delicious lunch. After some relaxation time, we venture out on a late afternoon/evening Big Five game drive in open 4×4 vehicles in one of the neighbouring Private Reserves. We take a break for Sundowner drinks at one of the waterholes en route enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the African Bushveld before continuing our game drive into the night. Located within the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve and forming part of the Greater Kruger Park ecosystem, Thornhill offers comfortable accommodation in authentic thatched roof chalets. Vibrant fabrics and local hardwood furniture all create that rustic yet stylish bush atmosphere. Sit back and relax in our Bar/Lounge area or sip cocktails around the swimming pool and treetop viewing deck overlooking the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range and never ending wilderness. The Park offers an unrivalled wildlife experience that ranks with the best not only in Africa, but around the world. Its rich history dates back to 1898, and its goal has always been to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld. Today, this national treasure offers two million hectares of unspoiled African bushveld. Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, Kruger remains home to an impressive number of species ranging from 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 517 birds and 146 mammals. Look forward to a safari experience that unfolds from the moment you enter the Kruger Park, and explore the best game drive routes the Park has to offer. Our game drive takes us through varied topography with an amazing variety of wildlife, birds, plants and trees. We break at a remote picnic site to enjoy a packed breakfast before continuing our Safari discovering the unspoilt, untamed wilderness that makes Kruger Park so special. Our journey continues as we stop off at the various viewpoints and waterholes whilst game viewing and bird watching along the way. We return to the comforts of Thornhill Safari Lodge, and enjoy yet another taste of traditional African cuisine before retiring to the peaceful sounds of the African night. Ascending the majestic Drakensberg Escarpment we stop off to view the amazing Blyde River Canyon and Three Rondawels.
