Day-by-day Description
Day 1Arrive in Cape Town
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport where your local tour leader picks you up and takes you to the very trendy and central Mojo Hotel (or equivalent if unavailable). The Mojo has an amazing rooftop with stellar sea views. Relax and unwind before going on a tour of the historical, splendid and colorful Cape Malay quarters - the Bo Kaap. Big welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2Table Mountain
Weather permitting, we take the cable car up Table Mountain. Those who prefer hiking can do the 4 hour climb up the mountain. We descend with the cable car and head to the V&A Waterfront for culture, shopping and world class art at the Mocaa Zeitz Museum.
Day 3Cape of Good Hope
We drive down past Simon's Town and the penguins on Boulders Beach (the brave ones can swim here!) to the Cape of Good Hope. Back to Cape Town in time for a scenic sunset at Chapman's Peak.
Location
Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape Peninsula, Cape Town, South Africa
Day 4Robben Island
Today we walk in the steps of the great Nelson Mandela. We take the ferry to Robben Island where Madiba was held captive for 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment. We recommend High Tea at the luxurious Mount Nelson today (at ca $30 per person). You will have to let us know so we can make the reservation 6 months in advance as it is the best high tea in the world. Tonight we have dinner at a traditional Xhosa restaurant.
Day 5Beach Life
Today we go to the District Six museum to learn about the forceful and painful evictions residents here faced in very recent history. We then explore the new, creative heart of Cape Town, Woodstock/Salt River. Traditionally home to the ethnic minorities the Cape Malay and Cape Coloured. The Cape Coloureds are a heterogeneous South African ethnic group, with diverse ancestral links. Ancestry may include European colonizers, indigenous Khoisan and Xhosa people and slaves imported from the Dutch East Indies. We then hit up the beach that is safest to swim in - that is where no sharks have been sighted and watch the sunset with cocktails in our hands.
Day 6Game Drive
Today we visit a big five game reserve and go on a proper safari. Spot rhino, leopard, elephants, lion and buffalo and many more.
Day 7Cape Winelands
Today we go to the picturesque Stellenbosch valley and enjoy some of the best wines and food in the world. Think Nappa Valley, only better. We sleep at a gorgeous country estate in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Day 8Franschhoek
Today we go to Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands. Franschhoek is also known as the gay capital of Africa and is one of the cutest little towns on the continent.
Day 9More wine
We spend one last day drinking a wee bit too much wine and visiting gorgeous vineyards in and around Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Farewell dinner at a high end but affordable Winelands restaurant.
Day 10Good Bye
Time to head home, after breakfast/depending on flight schedule we drive you back to the airport and wave our good byes.
