Summary

Drive east to Manambato, about 7hours drive then boat transfer to Akanin' ny Nofy, which means "Nest of Dreams”. This is time to discover the endemic flora and fauna of Madagascar, such as rare palm trees and plants like orchids and mahoganies. At Palmarium reserve, there are 9 species of lemurs that can be seen there or nearby, of which 3 are nocturnal, including the rare and elusive Aye Aye. This tour will be combine with the visit of Andasibe National park to explore the wildlife in a rainforest in searching the 11 species of lemurs including the Indri indri which is the largest living species with a barely visible tail, black and white markings and a surprised teddy–bear face, this lemur is one of the few animals in the world that cannot survive in captivity.

You will be greeted on arrival at Ivato airport by an English speaking guide who will accompany you to your hotel in town. ‘Tana’ – as the locals call it has fascinating traditional architecture and a more Indonesian influence than the rest of Madagascar. After breakfast, we drive east to Manambato, about 7hours drive. The journey to the East offers first time visitors to Madagascar a gentle introduction to rural life with rice fields, redbrick houses and roadside stalls selling seasonal fruits and vegetables lining the route. In the morning we will visit the private Palmarium Park, also known as Akanin' ny Nofy, which is situated on 50 ha on the East coast of Madagascar, along the Ampitabe lake and the Indian Ocean, in the Pangalanes Channel. After breakfast, transfer by boat to Manambato, your guide will take you to Andasibe, a stunning rainforest park, about 3 hours’ drive. A night walk will be organised in late evening in the forest surrounding the reserve with a local guide. You will see a variety of nocturnal lemurs: mouse lemurs, white footed sportive lemur, fat-tailed dwarf lemur, as well as the woolly lemur. After breakfast, enjoy a visit to the 810 ha Perinet reserve with a local guide in search of the Indri indri. With a barely visible tail, black and white markings and a surprised teddy–bear face, this Lemur is one of the few animals in the world that cannot survive in captivity. There are another 11 species of lemur to spot as you walk through the rainforest. You may find a troop of Grey Bamboo lemurs, Common Brown lemur, Diademed Sifaka. Birdwatchers should look out for the Velvet Asity, Blue Coua and Nuthatch Vanga and many more endemic species. Perinet is home to many reptiles, invertebrates, and some of Madagascar’s over a thousand orchid species. Visit of the lemur’s island in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to see lemur close to you.
