After breakfast, we drive east to Andasibe, a stunning rainforest park, about 4 hours’ drive from the city. The journey to the East offers first time visitors to Madagascar a gentle introduction to rural life with rice fields, redbrick houses and roadside stalls selling seasonal fruits and vegetables lining the route. A night walk will be organised in late evening in the forest surrounding the reserve with a local guide. You will see a variety of nocturnal lemurs: mouse lemurs, white footed sportive lemur, fat-tailed dwarf lemur, as well as the woolly lemur. After breakfast, enjoy a visit to the 810 ha Perinet reserve with a local guide in search of the Indri indri. With a barely visible tail, black and white markings and a surprised teddy–bear face, this Lemur is one of the few animals in the world that cannot survive in captivity. There are another 11 species of lemur to spot as you walk through the rainforest. You may find a troop of Grey Bamboo lemurs, Common Brown lemur, Diademed Sifaka. Birdwatchers should look out for the Velvet Asity, Blue Coua and Nuthatch Vanga and many more endemic species. Perinet is home to many reptiles, invertebrates, and some of Madagascar’s over a thousand orchid species. Visit of the lemur’s island in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to see lemur close to you. Start the tour from Andasibe- Antananarivo to Antsirabe with your guide. The ride takes about 7 hours on a good road and twisting. On route, you will meet the beautiful landscape of the rice field and merina typical tombs, villages. Stop at Ambatolampy to visit local forging making cooking pot by aluminium (metalwork). This is the largest town between Antananarivo and Antsirabe. When you arrive in Antsirabe, you have an option to relax or spend a time for sightseeing around the city. The compact city centre with its nice mixed architecture of different styles invite visitors for a walk without any fear, since the city is quite safe. Horse riding and is quite popular here too. After the morning breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the hotel and continue your way to Ranomafana National Park. After 89 km south of Antsirabe, you will pass by the centre of Malagasy hand sculptured wooden craft work called Ambositra town. There are many shops here where you can browse for souvenirs and find very good marquetery artisan with retailer price. Then continue down to the rain forest at Ranoamfana National Park. In total, the ride from Antsirabe to Ranomafana will take about 5 hours. A night walk will be organized to discover the night species of animals: eastern woolly lemur, Small-toothed sportive lemur, greater dwarf lemur, brown mouse lemur 6 carnivorous, like the Malagasy striped civet and some mongooses. After breakfast, your guide will take you to the park office, where you will meet your National Park guide. The average circuit will take a minimum of two hours. Longer walks are available. Ranomafana (which means “hot water” in Malagasy) is doubtless one of the most spectacular National Parks of Madagascar. The park contains twelve lemur species. Aside from the golden bamboo lemur, visitors can spot eastern woolly lemur, red bellied lemur, eastern grey bamboo lemur, greater bamboo lemur, red-fronted brown lemur, black-and-white ruffed lemur and brown mouse lemur. Other mammals include 7 species of tenrecs, 8 bats and 6 carnivorous. Several of madagascar’s birds can be found here which is recommended to the bird watcher. Leave Ranomafana Park to Ranohira or known as Isalo national park. On route, stopping at Ambalavao where you can visit the Antaimoro paper factory, made from the bark of Avoha tree. Women will demonstrate to you how they make this famous Antaimoro paper, using colourful flowers by their hand. This town is the centre for Zebu (Malagasy horned cattle) trading for all the surrounding countryside. Many tribes bring their herds of cattle here to the weekly Zebu market (every Wednesday). On the way stop to visit Anja reserve run by villagers, where you will have the opportunity to spot groups of ring tailed lemurs. Your journey continues through a range of spectacular rugged mountain tops, to arrive at Isalo national Park where you are free to relax for the rest of the day. After breakfast, drive to Isalo national park. Full day to explore the Isalo national park; it is a combination of sandstone rocks, rare endemic plants and dry weather makes this park particularly rewarding. For botanists there are many species of Pachypodium, Aloe and for lemur-lovers there are sifaka and ring –tailed. For centuries, the Bara tribe has used the caves in the canyon walls as burial sites. There are several established circuits to propose in the park, they provide all the Isalo highlights of lemurs, cool leafy canyons and hot dry plains with those extraordinary rock formations. Walk to Piscine naturelle for refreshening in the clear water of the pool, and then continue to the Namaza camp site where you will have picnic lunch. Trails are diverse sometimes steep, rocky, or flat. In the afternoon, continue the hike to cascade des nymphes, the black & blue pools. After breakfast, you will drive down to Toliara along the famous RN7. After an hour drive, stop to visit Zombitse National Park, a 36,300 hectare transition forest between the western and the southern habitat types, rich in biodiversity. The park is outstanding for birdwatchers as it offers the chance to glimpse one of Madagascar’s rarest endemics, Appert’s greenbul, which is confined to this forest. Other bird species include the Giant Coua and Crested Coua. After a 2 hour walk in the forest, drive through Toliara to Ifaty Beach (4- 5hrs) with stop for lunch in Toliara. On arrival, check into your bungalow and relax on the beach or take a dip in the azure waters of the Mozambique Channel. Snorkelling and scuba diving are available and payable locally. After breakfast, visit the Reniala Private Reserve which is a small 45 ha protected area, managed by an environmental association called Reniala (meaning baobab in Malagasy) that is trying to develop eco-tourism in the area. The reserve is located less than 1km from the Mozambique Channel near the village of Ifaty-Mangily. An early morning visit guarantees sightings of the long-tailed ground roller and subdesert mesite, two endemic species. The towering spiny bushes are home to more than 2000 plant species (many of them locally endemic), some spectacular and very old baobabs (there is a giant baobab of 12,5 m diameter) and a completely endemic plant family, the Didieraceae. Reniala includes a botanical trail and a bird sanctuary. Afternoon at your, enjoy relaxing on the beach.
